I plan to retake my biochemistry class over the summer, but I will not be able to retake it at my university because it is not being offered this summer. The biochemistry course I took during the Fall was a 3 hour class. Some biochemistry classes at other universities count as 4 hours. Since DO schools recalculate your GPA when you retake a class, does it matter if the class you retake isn't equivalent in hours to the class you originally took?

This is how the current AACOMAS states:
Repeat: Courses repeated for academic improvement or grade change must be listed each time taken. Repeated coursework MUST be equivalent to the original course in course content and credit hours to be used as a replacement. Also, course levels must be equivalent.
A graduate level course cannot be use to replace an undergraduate course. Courses repeated for additional credit, but not for a better grade, such as physical education or chorus, are not considered a repeat. Applicants should list the original class as a repeat, i.e., “Repeat,” and then list the final time the course is taken as “Last Repeat.” All repeated courses should be coded in sequence.
I hear a lot of different things on here about grade replacement. Based off of the current instructions it looks like that class wouldn't remediate, because it doesn't have the same credit hours. Have you tried using AACOMAS Support? That's what I would recommend. The system will be updating for this coming cycle, and although grade replacement wasn't part of their 'update' per se, I would only feel comfortable asking them because no one has technically gone through it yet.

Nevermind.
OP, the replacement can be higher amount of credits. Are you taking the new MCAT?
I took the New MCAT yesterday.OP, the replacement can be higher amount of credits. Are you taking the new MCAT?
Ouch. I feel for ya.

What's your source? That paragraph above is copied from their instructions and it states precisely the opposite lol.
Cause not every college offers the same course for the same amount of units? I believe it used to say "equal to or greater amount of units". Plenty of folks on here were able to replace courses that they took that were offered at different institutions that were worth more than their original course unit-wise. I don't have a direct source but it can be done. My friend who is matriculating this July did the same with his O-chem courses. I don't see why it has to be EXACTLY the same amount of units lol It would be a pain to find a general bio courses worth exactly 4 units when some colleges combine the course with lab into a 5-unit course.
who knows. lol OP retake it wherever and make sure it is equal to or greater in credit. Contact aacomas directly to get confirmation.
EDIT:
found some threads on SDN with members who did the same.

To be quite honest OP, you could have googled this ****. No need to make another thread. It's just that time of the year again I guess.

Honestly I feel the same way, equal or greater makes better sense. I'd like to think their instructions, although counterintuitive, are accurate but I don't have first hand experience with grade replacement. Just want the best info for OP, that's all.
