GPA - Retake classes

I retook many classes to pull my GPA from 1.67 to 3.0 .. I just read PharmCAS FAQ and PharmCAS tends to include the old grade as well .. If this is the case, I am in big trouble, as the average of an F (old grade) & A (new grade) = C and this can significantly reduce my low GPA to even lower.. Anyone has a thought on this?

Yeah, PharmCAS does average ALL your grades, so what you mentioned, A+F=C a 2.0 is correct. However, I'm thinking as long as you show a positive trend, that will work to your favor. But also remember many schools have a cut off regarding your pre-req courses as well as overall GPA. For example, I know the school I applied to had a 2.5 GPA as the minimum.

So as long as your write a great PS and meet the minimum GPA, you should HOPEFULLY be alright. But I suggest you retake some pre-req or take more upper div classes.

oh .. i hope that they look at the trend because for the first two years, I almost did not do anything but D's and F's; so those lower level classes I screwed up badly (but retook nonetheless).. However, I do very well with the upper level classes.. I am gonna have to excel the PCAT to prove myself worthy of acceptance..

I'm in a similar situation, I did poorly during freshman and sophmore year, and retook many of my pre-req. classes, getting mostly A's the second time around, bringing my GPA from 2.6 to a 3.3. However on pharmcas it was just a 2.9 due to them averaging the grades, and after this fall semester it went up to a 3.03 on pharmcas. I took the PCAT twice getting a 63 the first time and an 83 the second time. I still haven't heard from any of the schools I applied to yet. Hopefully they will see I'm determined and did decent on the PCAT and offer me an interview. Good luck though!

oh wow .. great job .. wish u luck .. if you retake PCAT, do you have to submit the new score to the school you applied to ?? Or they automatically get an update from PharmCAS?

As long as you list pharmcas as one of the places to send your scores on your PCAT they will automatically update the schools you are applying to, as long as they are a school that uses pharmcas....
