Hi,

I was going through some personal problems which started towards the end of my first quarter as a freshman. I am getting back on track now and my GPA is around a 3.3. I had to take some art classes (they call them engineering classes) and I pretty much bombed those (the averages were like 90's, I got like a 40 on the final 🙁). I got a B in my first bio class, got a C in one of my calculus class and my grades were pretty bumpy. I managed to redeem myself in math after taking two upper level math courses. I got B's in my first and 2nd organic chemistry classes. I still have to take two labs and 1 more organic chemistry class, as well as two more quarters of biology courses (I will take Biochemistry next quarter and molecular genetics later on). I also got B+'s in physics 1 and physics 2 (will become A- in physics 2 if I can manage to get 1 point back on an exam. I will be taking physics 3 later on.
I got A-/B+/A- in general chemistry.

I assume that medical schools look at your GPA to see if you are ready to handle the rigor. So, after I raise my GPA (and get A-ish grades on my remaining prereq's) over the next few quarters, could I consider my GPA in good standing? I am going to be starting my 6th quarter (so my 3rd quarter as a sophomore).

I need 201 credits to graduate, I am at ~80 right now. I still need to take my GEC's (avoiding drawing and art classes, so my GPA is going up there).

I think you're fine, you should really focus on doing your best in classes from here on out. You still got plenty of time and credits to raise that GPA.
FWIW, I myself had a terrible freshman year and was able to pull my GPA up to a 3.4, which got me into med school.
