I'm curious, I know that GPA is broken down, but I also know that to be competitive a certain overall GPA is needed (I have no idea exactly what that magic number would be though). Anyway, say a person has gotten all A's with perhaps 1 or 2 B's in the Math/Science/Physics (or whichever ones are broken into that sub-category)classes (including upper level) but has done poorly (B's & C's) in stuff like English, Philosophy, Humanities, History... which makes the overall GPA say around 3.1-3.3. Obviously the science GPA would be 3.8 or above, but would that not even matter since the overall GPA is so low? Thanks for any replies 🙂

3.1-3.3 is slightly below the average GPA for osteopathic schools. You should be fine if your MCAT is in the mid to high twenties. Obviously, the higher the better.

I think it does matter that your science gpa is so much higher. My overall ended up being 3.4 (3.399) and the science (3.54 aacom and 3.6 amcas). My MCAT sucked (24= 11-6-7) and I've still managed to get interviews and an acceptance. I think that you will be fine as long as you are strong in other areas. I really don't think that having a sore spot on your application ruins your chances, especially since it's still above the cutoff (3.0 or 2.5 depending on the school). I think its also really important to have lots of experience, good LOR's and a good DO LOR.

i only have about a 3.25 overall, witha 3.75 science GPA and have received 5 interviews so far, as well as an acceptance, so you should be alright.

Thank you all for the replys 🙂 And do you mind me asking you (FS-PRO) what you got on the MCATs? 🙂

no problem, feel free to ask me anything. Especially if you have questions about KCUMB, DMU and AZCOM, cause i have already been accepted to KCUMB and I am interviewing at the other 2 schools over the next 2 weeks.

Thank you, and congrats on the acceptance and good luck with the interviews. 🙂
