When people talk about their science GPA, no one ever says how many classes they have taken to get that GPA. For instance, in respect to science GPA, have most people that have gotten acceptances just taken the pre-rec classes or many more? How do admission committees look at different applications if one person has a 3.8 GPA but has only taken the required classes where someone else has taken an abundance of higher level science classes on top of the pre-rec classes and has a 3.3 GPA? I am just interested in how many science classes above the required people have taken and how that factors into people getting accepted into dental school.

I am pretty sure as long as you take AT LEAST the prerequisites, a science gpa is a science gpa. Really, the prerequisites are the hardest classes. Like Biology 2000 expects you to understand micro, immuno, biochem, and much more (of course to superficial extent but more nonetheless).

In my opinion a 3.8 with the prerequisites is more desirable than a 3.3 with extra science classes. I love science classes, so I don't mind taking more. Albeit, I think you should take biochemistry at least before applying. That's about it though for higher level science classes.

When they calculate your Sgpa on AADSAS, it indicates how many science classes you have taken. For example I have 75 credits of science. I think this looks better than taking only the pre-reqs. You still need the high gpa to go along with it though.

At one of my interviews they mentioned that they were impressed that I took Biophysical chemistry. So taking these advanced classes does help .
