If I'm doing a GPR program after graduation, can I defer my dental student loans until after I finish my GPR?

Or would it be better to just start paying off loans with GPR salary after graduation?

You should be able to defer your loans during your residency. There are a few ways and it also depends on whether you are considered a student during your GPR. Contact the financial aid dept at your school or your lender to find out the best option for you.

Just because the loans are in deferment doesn't mean that you can't make payments. They just won't be hounding you every month for the money. It's probably better to apply for the deferment and then pay what you can afford during the residency. Also, you can't be sure you'll be employed right away after the residency, any lapse in income could make things a lot tougher those first few months after the GPR.
