I'm sorry of all this has been beaten to death..but I just had a few questions regarding these two residencies. I'm still just a lowly DS1 but I'm pretty curious.

1. How difficult is it to get into either of these? Are some programs "better" then others or are they just different?

2. If you're lookin to do private practice is there any benefit of a GPR?

3. As far as getting into one...is there like a "general" area you should be in regarding your stats or does it just depend?

~ I'm on a 4 year military HPSP so I figure doing one of these would not only help me there..but also when the day comes that I choose to get out (if I ever do). I've kind of accepted the fact that specializing might be out of the question simply b/c it will be soooo much time to give back. Even if I paid for it myself it would be residency time..then start the 4 yrs payback (ouch!). Thanks everybody and best of luck with all your future endeavours!!!!

Training never hurts... in your position you can not enter private practice immediately so the additional training will help more... Be careful the military may not accept all programs. Before we were able to take some one, we had to be checked out. The military also has some good programs.

For pvt practice both are good... for military where for the few years of required service you may see more emergencies/trauma... so a GPR may be better
