I’m extremely interested in dental anesthesiology and would like to gain more experience prior to applying to residency programs. I also think it would make a more competitive applicant. I’ve started looking into GPR programs but I’m having a hard time finding programs with a ton of hospital experience. This might be a reach BUT I would love to find a program that was majority hospital based and/or oral surgery with relatively little traditional dentistry so I could make a more definitive decision. I understand that I might be asking for a lot but who knows! Thanks

The one in Denver has a ton of oral surgery and hospital call associated with it. It’s not the VA and not the University GPR. It’s the other one. I can’t think of the name of the program and I’m on mobile right now. Look into that though. It should be a good start.

Are you talking about the Denver Health GPR?

Do an OMFS internship?

That’s definitely an option I was looking into but I wasn’t sure if it was totally feasible. I’ve had a conversation with the head of the omfs department at my school about my interest in dental anesthesiology so I’m not sure how a letter of recommendation from them would turn out. They completely support my decision and expressed that if they weren’t in OMFS then dental anesthesia would be their next choice.
