I really don't know anything about the process of getting into general practice residencies. Is it very competitive? Do people usually attend the residency in the dental school that they attended? I was wondering because my wife and I will probably want to attend the same residency. I hope that will be an easy task. Any info. is appreciated. Thanks.

You can do a GPR or AEGD anywhere you want. The better your grades, the more competitive you'll be (as with anything else), but there are a lot of other factors they look at too. You don't have to do it at the school you attend, but some students choose to stay on at those programs too.

I guess you guys could do the same GPR. Wouldn't that get boring & tiring, 24/7, both of you doing the same exact thing (you have 4 years of that coming up in dental school). It would probably be to both of your benefits if you attended different programs in the same area. During my interviews I met dental couples that are current residents who have recently graduated and are doing this. Live in a place that has tons of GPRs & AEGDs within 30 minutes of each other (NYC, Philly, New Jersey, etc). Go to 2 different programs. This way get a chance to take in 2 different programs, you get to experience 2 ways of doing things. You are actually lucky to be able to do that; most of us only get to fully experience one residency. You would get the best of 2. There is a couples match thing listed on the match website but I never read it to see what it was all about. I think it tries to place couples in the same locale so one doesn't end up in Texas while the other one is in Oregon.

Check the info on these websites for more info on the residencies available in different location and the match process.
