Today I was entering my classes to TMDSAS.I realized that I had one not pass grade(from bio anthro class) which I did not care about that at that time. While I was trying to enter the grade which was displayed as F (and reduced my non-science GPA incredibly). I am wondering is this true or not? Normally pass/fail grades do not include in GPA calculation. Do guys have any idea what I need to do? I will be super pissed if this is the case. It is the first time I heard that NP course evaluated as F (which is very ridicilious) 👎.

sadly this is the case. the purpose of a P/F is so that if you pass and get a low grade, like a C or D, it will not affect your GPA. If you fail the class however, obviously it should somehow be reflected on your GPA. Though some schools may all together throw out any P/F grades in GPA calculation, in apps, GPA must be recalculated to properly reflect your academic performance against other applicants. So if you have entered it as per instructions on the page and it is indeed reducing your GPA, then too bad, suck it up.
On top of that, since you're an out of stater applying to TX schools, it is already extremely competitive and any blemish on your academic record can be a potential killer if you can not properly justify it. Quite frankly, a failed course, regardless if you took it P/F will not sit well with the ADCOMS in such a competitive environment.

How is it "ridiculous" if you failed the class? Pass/fail grades are not included in the gpa calculation unless a grade of F is given. Auditing a course may have been a better alternative to P/F.

According to TMDSAS represent. NP is an F grade (0 GPA). I am shocked with this news. I have four P grades( which were orignially A) and one NP grade. P grades are not evaluated in GPA calculation, but NP does as F. Please tell me where is the equality (since in my school P/NP classes are not included in GPA calculation).I am very disappointed with TMDSAS application system.

whine whine whine, simply put, you didnt pass. It's not TMDSAS's fault that you didnt pass or drop the course when you could. how do you expect to make it through dental school let alone life if you expect people to just ignore your bad performances. If you want to talk about equality, how is there no equality? all applicants are subject to the same calculations for GPA. If you want to get into inequalities then go start a thread about grade inflation in certain schools. and as for your 4 other grades that were P but were originally A's, it's your fault for not taking the course straight up. When TMDSAS or AADSAS gt your transcript, all they see is a P/F/NP, they don't see that the grade was an A but you decided to take it P/NP so in that case, it's your own fault and you only have yourself to blame. And if you dont like the way TMDSAS is set up and if you're just going to whine and whine about it until enough people share your opinion so you feel less of an idiot then just dont apply. dental school is not a place for immature people like you who complain about everything that doesnt go their way.

Aww, don't be so mean, sweetie! Not everyone can be as amazingly mature and sophisticated as you...<3 Besides, I do see the OP's point that it doesn't seem quite fair to incorporate the fails but not the passes into the GPA calculations. That said, you're right in that complaining about the system does no good. I say it's unfortunate for you, OP, but you've just gotta suck it up and hope for the best regardless. Good luck!

What you want is a pass on the no pass.

Let me clarify the point. NP grades do not include in AADSAS GPA calculation, but it does in TMDSAS GPA calculation. It is not my fault since one system tries to give F for four units class which I did not get (I got NP not F). You guys do not want to see my point. NP/P are not for grade. I do not understand why you guys try to defend TMDSAS by mentioning to get NP (I deserve F). NP IS NOT F. By the way I am not a child to whine, I am mentioning my disappointment. Please put yourself in my position and think. It is so easy to say, since it did not happen to you.
Peace!

You might want to read/re read the AADSAS guidelines on p/f because there is no mention that an F or NP is not taken into account.

Here is the e-mail that I got today.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Your P or NP grades will NOT be calculated into your AADSAS GPA
Calculation. When entering a grade of NP, you would enter the first
grade option as "NP", which is the exact grade that appears on your
official transcript. You would then enter the AADSAS Grade as "NONE".
If you are confused on this further, please wait until after June 1st,
and enter your courses into your coursework section. If there are still
more questions that you have please feel free to contact AADSAS Customer
Service at that point in time. Have a good day.

I also want to give you a comment toJTSLai. How do you think that I am immature? Do you know me? Do you have any clue about my background? How do you know that DS is not for me? I did not whine; I mentioned one unfairness (my opinion). In my opinion you are unprofessional since you try to judge without knowing anything about the situation. Final remainder P/NP courses are not for grade. If I know that NP will be evaulated as F, of course I studied very hard to pass 👍.

You should hope, notwithstanding the information you received, that this is not one of those cases where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. The information given by ADEA under the AADSAS Instruction has the following:

p. 44 "Grades and Credit hours for all FAILED courses will be included in the AADSAS GPA, even if they are not included in the GPA calculation of the transcript-issuing institution."

p. 45 "Note that grades of P or Credit are not used computing a GPA". (But no mention of NP or F in P/F.)

https://portal.aadsasweb.org/

But more than enough time wasted on this topic.

I shall restrain myself and just post an abridged version.
-creating multiple threads about the same topic about how you feel the TMDSAS system is unfair is completely appropriate.
-not owning up to your own no pass and expecting others to ignore said no pass on the basis that someone told you they wouldnt count is completely reasonable.
-not caring about a grade because it doesnt count in your GPA calculation is so the right mentality.

oh and the situation is pretty much described pretty well as you have stated yourself.
-you took a bio antho course P/NP
-you received a NP grade in said class
-you also took 4 other courses P/NP
-you didnt study much for the class because you were told it would not affect your GPA
-TMDSAS decided to count your NP as a F resulting in a 0 GPA for the class
-as doc has shown, you misinterpreted the P/NP policy of the AADSAS application to assume they meant NP and F also dont count when they only mention that P's dont count
-you create multiple threads on SDN to complain about this situation and i'm assuming that you want some sympathy on the matter but you arent getting any which is compounding the problem
-after multiple users agree that the system though not completely perfect, but equally fair, and you should own up to your NP, you continue to try to defend your original argument.

if i have misunderstood anything about the situation please let me know so i can stop making myself look like a fool.

good morning SDN xD
and i agree with doc, this thread needs be closed.

I respect you a lot Doc Toothache, since you helped me a lot in this forums. I wish I can say the same thing to you JTSlai, but I cannot. Let me remind you one thing. Learn respectful to others. You are(were) a chemical engineer. The first thing you need to learn in our field being humble and not to judge without learning all the details. Right know you are senior right? I had students in your age group too. Once you are taking your core eng. class I was teaching students like you (I still think that I do not know anything in this life). I believe that your maturity will improve a lot once you begin your professional school. This is the last comment, I gave in this thread.
