I know that dental schools do not accept grade forgiveness, but I heard that they average the two grades together if you retake a course. I am trying to figure out my science GPA and earned a D in a science and retook the course and earned a high B. Do I just average it to a C, or do they calculate the D into the GPA and the B?

The D and B are not averaged; rather they are calculated into your GPA as two separate grades.

if your school has a forgiveness policy and it isnt on your transcript they won't see it or know about it.

If it is on your transcript then they will see it.. but the improvement is good. I did the same thing in calcand got into dental school. Just make sure you do well in your other courses from now on. i think most people have some blemish on their record... an F or a D... a W.... it happens...schools are understanding as long as it isn't a reoccuring thing..

The thing is that you DO in a sense average the grades, 4 units of D and 4 units of B equal 8 units of C.

1*4 + 3*4 = 16

8*2 = 16

So, either way you do the GPA calculation, it will be the same.
