I got a C+ in Calc 1 my first semester (3.5 overall GPA), which isn't good...but then I got a C- in Calc 2..which really hurt my gpa. My question is, would any problems be caused (or is it even possible)if I retook the Calc 2 course at a different school. There are a couple reasons I would do this....
1) I really don't have the time to take it during the school year, so it would be easier to take it in the summer at a local university near my home, and just make sure the credit transfers.
2) I go to a small private school, and the math there is KILLER. I know just by talking to my friends back home that I easily could get a high B or A by taking the course elsewhere. To get a really good grade in Calc 2 at my school would take a way too much time and I wouldn't be able to balance it along with ochem and my other biochem classes.

Also..calc doesn't seem to be a prereq for DO school anyways...is it absolutely necessary I retake it, assuming I maintain a much higher gpa from now on. My weakness in calculus at this school is really the only reason I didn't have a 3.7+ gpa my freshman year.

Thanks!

Yes, you can take calc 2 at a different school. Just make sure that the courses have the same amount of credit hours. I retook my calc 1 at a community college over the summer when I bombed it my freshman year at my univ haha....

From your grades if you're applying DO then it doesn't even sound worth it to retake it. No ADCOM going to look at a low Calc 1/2 score (C is average remember?) and think you're not fit to be a doctor when your GPA is good otherwise. Just relax a bit. 🙂

What are your thoughts of 3 C's in Gen Chem 1, Gen Chem 2, and Physics 1? I got a 2.0 in those 3 classes. My GPA is still decent though. These were freshmen year and since then I've gotten a 3.0 or higher in orgo 1, orgo 2, physio, biochem, etc. Do I need to retake them if my sGPA is 3.2+?

Have you taken higher level science classes and done significantly better (by that I mean getting As)? I have a few Cs in my prereqs as well, but I've taken 300 and 400 level Bio classes that I've aced and shown that I'm capable of the higher level classes and got my stuff turned around. I have a little bit of time so I'm going to redo my C in my first semester of bio (because come on that C -> A will be a joke with my knowledge of biology at this point), but other than that I'm going to ride on the fact that I have shown through more difficult classes I can handle what it takes to be in medical school (which other people have verified is perfectly fine to do).

I am in a similar situation. I am about to be a senior at my private liberal arts school and got a C- in genetics my freshman year and a C+ in physics II, but the rest of my grades have been A's and B's... I have a cGPA of 3.07 and i know that is very low, but I don't know if I should retake any of my classes that I did bad in, if I should go to a post-bac program, or if I should just give up on applying to medical school.

I got a C in Trig and Calculus and refused to retake them. I was asked about it during my interview last cycle and just said "I am just bad at math" and they just laughed. I got accepted so I don't think C's in math classes is that big of deal.
