My first question should be pretty easy. I've done a search, but saw mixed answers. I just want to get clarification. Can I replace a 3 credit course with a 4? I'm looking at replacing an intro chemistry course with Chemistry I for science majors. Both 100 levels, but the first one had no lab and was just an intro.

The second question is I have two intro chems already. The first time I got a B in Chem 101, the second time I got stuck in Chem 100 because nothing else was available, but I ended up with a D+. My father had had a heart attack and other issues kept me out of class. I just didn't put in the effort after that. Anyway, I'm going to get an A in Chem 1. Can I put Chem 101 as my first class, Chem 100 as a repeat, and Chem I as the last repeat so my GPA only shows a 4.0?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes.

Would probably be better to send an email to AACOMAS and ask. Personally I wouldn't think you can replace a course with a different course (I know what types you're referring to, science majors vs. non-science majors bio and chem). But they're technically not the same class. Email AACOMAS.

I replaced Physics lecture only with a Physics combined lecture/lab without a problem. Sounds like OP is in a similar situation, except with Chemistry.

Were your classes identical? All three of my chems are either introductory or level 1. I'd have to assume that they would be similar enough to count as retakes. I will e-mail aacomas just to make sure and will update this thread.

Thanks again.

One was "Physics II". The other was "College Physics 2". They were taken at different schools.

The difference is that these were taken at different schools. I completely agree with you that you would be able to do this, as long as they were taken at different institutions... because they may equate to the same class, just different names/credits due to the fact that they're different colleges/universities. However, I think this is a different situation since they were taken at the same institution, but the OP took 2 different courses. Just my thoughts, though. I really think emailing AACOMAS would be best. Good luck to you.

I am e-mailing to make sure. What I'm really worried about is that the Intro to Chem 100 (3 credits) can be replaced by Chem I w/ lab. They are from different institutions. As long as I can get rid of the D+ I'll be happy. The intro to chem 101 was a B so I'm not too worried about that hurting me.

As long as they're from different institutions, you're fine. I had a similar app. Good luck!

The guidelines for repeat courses are:

1. Both courses need to be on the same level (undergraduate/graduate)

2. The credit hours for the repeat course needs to be equal or greater than that of the initial course (credits have to be converted to semester hours if they are in quarters or units)

3. The content needs to be the same or similar

Pretty generic e-mail I got from them. I'm pretty sure I'm good to go though. All three classes are undergraduate and they are all level one chems. They covered the same topics so I'm saying that's similar enough.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

just posting here so I can find thread in the future.

You'll be fine. The only replacement they didn't give me was when I tried to go from the quarter system to the semester system (3.3 cr [5 quarter cr] vs. 3.0 cr).

I am assuming that 3.3 vs 3.0 is in semester units right? I have a quarter system course worth 2.7 semester units (it was in quarter format) that I plan on replacing with a 3 unit semester course..

I also would like to hear the answer to this one.

My bad. It was 5 quarter units, 3 semester units.

3.3 was the semester units number for 5 quarter units.

So you guys are fine.

So ya, aacomas verified that this was fine.
