Grades not released until Mid June..when to submit primaries?

I'm from a UC and we don't finish classes until June 15...which means grades aren't released until June 21ish... I talked to my premed counselor and she said that it's better to wait for spring grades to come out and submit early to mid July rather than do it early June because aamc doesn't verify until end of the June anyways.

What is the best way to proceed?

From California and I ended up deciding to apply without my spring quarter grades because it would not significantly change my GPA. An added benefit to not waiting for your spring quarter grades is that if you do well, you can use it to update schools later on down the line.

You must also take into account the time that it takes AMCAS to actually receive your transcript because without an official transcript they will not process your primary application. Worst case scenario is that you would be able to send your transcript to AMCAS around late-June, it would then about a week to arrive at AMCAS, and perhaps up to 6 weeks for them to process your transcript. For this reason I decided to send my transcript ahead of time with only up to my winter quarter grades so that when I submitted my primary application everything would be ready to be verified.

As a timeline reference, I had my official transcript at AMCAS in May and primary submitted by mid-June and it still took 2 weeks to be verified.

I would make sure you complete all of the AMCAS primary app. asap so that all you'll have left to do is submit your grades. I think it makes more sense to submit it complete with your final grades and just make sure to complete your Secondarys asap once you receive them. Other than that I dont think 2-3 weeks will make a huge difference.

I am not waiting but I am a senior so one quarter out of 15 did not seem like a big deal. If you do wait remember that even though you can see your grades on your on the 21st they will not be officially posted in your transcript until a little bit after that. For my UC it is the 25th.

i did what someone above said (did all of my app and was just waiting on the spring grades). then i submitted it right when i got them. at least at my uc, sometimes professors release grades before the school officially requires them to be released, so i was able to get most of mine in before the official date. then i submitted it immediately.

you won't really lose any time or progress by submitting your amcas later since what really matters is when you get your secondary completed by

I submitted early without my spring grades. My Overall GPA and Sci GPA weren't going to budge much so it did not make sense to wait for spring quarter grades.

This is technically incorrect. After you submit, AMCAS will verify your application as soon as they get to it. For people who submit on day one, it could only take a few hours to a few days. However, no matter how fast you are verified, your application will not be sent out to medical schools until late June at the earliest (some people have posted the exact date a few times in various threads. Was it June 29?). Essentially AMCAS verifies applications for a few weeks then releases the first batch on a specific date. There are no later batches though-- apps are sent out immediately as applications are verified once you get past June 29 (or whatever the date is)

My opinion: Juniors should wait and submit after Spring quarter grades are posted. Seniors are ok submitting without Spring quarter grades.

Also, I'd be sure to have a grade for all pre-reqs so if you've taken any of those in Spring quarter, submit after grades are posted.

Finally, if your quarter gpa is anticipated to be higher than your current total gpa, it is in your best interest to wait and get that little bump in gpa before submitting your application.

Yes, AMCAS begins accepting transcripts in May. The benefit of having your transcript already at AMCAS means you won't have to wait for them to receive it to begin verifying your primary application.

AMCAS will begin verifying primary applications throughout June but won't distribute it to medical school until late June.

Thanks for your advice! Would you say that getting a 3.55 instead of a 3.5 is worth waiting on Spring Quarter grades? I am a senior but I would really like any boost for my GPA. If what IntoThe West is saying is correct through, it'd be a huge delay because my transcripts wouldn't even be fully verified till August. This seems like a huge deal to me, as I would be submitting on July 1st and sending in my transcripts in late June. Do you still think it's worth it to wait?

Rounding down, anything between a 3.50 and a 3.59 is psychologically equivalent. If you were going from a 3.55 to a 3.60 I'd say wait but for a 0.05 bump in a senior with a 3.50, I'd say submit on day 1.

Darn, I have a 3.553 and if I were to get straight A's this last quarter, I'd have a 3.588. Worth waiting until grades come out in late June?
