EM is one field I'm considering and I talked to some of the 4th years at my school this year who said that the match was supposedly more competitive this year?? Last year I went to a lunch lecture and all the people in the 4th year class then said that there are always plenty of EM spots and everyone matches yada yada yada. I'm just curious what kind of Step 1 scores and grades you need to get into some of the top programs (i.e. I'm very interested in Hennepin specifically if I end up eventually going intto EM)?

Just focus at the task at hand, If your doing a rotation, do it well. If you are preping for step 1- try your hardest. etc....

EM programs are somewhat hard, but not as hard as other fields. Of course the competitive programs are what they are, but if you know you want it, and you honestly try your best, I am sure a program will respect you for that and rank you high.

My two cents

So check out the FAQ. There's a lot of info there, and it hasn't changed so much as to be misleading. You can look up 2008 EM Applicant Survey Results.

If you want this year's stats, then wait awhile for me to get through the survey info (likely after my shelf on the 3rd) or wait for the NRMP charting outcomes for 2009 to come out. If you want program specific stats, then :luck:
