Hi,

Can someone help me? I am currently a post-bacc student and right now it's looking like I'll be getting a C in Physics I. How bad is a C if all your other science grades are mostly As (my undergrad grade is not very high - I would say around a 3.1)

In terms of your GPA, its bad because its just gonna make it harder to boost the GPA.

In terms of being it being post-bacc, it depends. Are you taking your pre-med requirements right now during your post-bacc (e.g.: you were not pre-med as an undergrad, and not a science major). If so, then its not that bad, just don't do it again.

If you were pre-med and/or a science major as an undergrad, then it might look bad. You had the background (vs. say an english major), and one does post-bacc to boost your GPA.....essentially given a second chance to redeem yourself. BUT, its only one C, so you haven't torpedoed your chances to get into med school. Just work harder and never let that happen again😉.

I think it looks bad regardless of your major/background. When you are coming into a postbac with a lowish GPA, you need to get mostly As and basically hit it out of the park. If you are a non-science person, you have even more to prove in terms of demonstrating your ability to succeed in the sciences.
To the OP: one C in the sciences is not fatal. But it doesn't help your cause. Do what you can to get mostly A's in the rest. If you find you need to slow the pace of the program or cut back on ECs, work, etc. to get A's from here on out, by all means do so. Good luck.

Another thing you really need to do is figure out what is giving you so much trouble with Physics I because whatever it is, its going to get worse once you get to electricity and magnitism in Physics II. I suggest you talk to your professor or a tutor to help you get back on track, who knows its only early April maybe you can turn this thing around and get a B/B+/A- (depending on how many more tests you have.) They have more to prove yes if they were a non-science major, but at the same time, it could be their first exposure to science after 3-5 years worth of non-science of coursework. I think it can be either way, and will likely be dependent on the person reviewing the application. I can see how they would see it the way you are describing too.
