Grades are very important. It's one of the main criteria schools look, in addition to your OAT scores, that qualifies you for an interview and/or an acceptance.........

You can look at the Average GPA for the past entering class on the opted.org website......

what's considered a low gpa? what's the lowest that you guys know. im not done with my undergrad yet, so i still have time to boost it up. but i feel that i understand the concepts for these pre-req classes but just don't do well on tests. 😳

you can't really ask somethin similiar to "what is the lowest possible gpa i could get and still get in optometry school" because whoever got in w/ that low GPA probably has ALOT of other things going for them or has a special (and not bc they're poor/sad/bad profs etc) circumstance. but generally, anything below the average GPA of their previous entering classes is considered a low gpa.

but if you really want some numbers, i'll give you my take on it.
REALLY Low (0-9% of acceptance) : 2.7-2.8
pretty darn low (10-20%): 2.81-2.99
low (21-35%): 3.0-3.2
average (36-65%): 3.21-3.33
above average (66-80%): 3.34- 3.5
much average average (81+%): 3.51+

depends on the school. good luck !

Well, I think that if you understand the concepts taught in your courses, then you should do well on the OATs. If you get a really impressive OAT score, that should balance out your GPA, as long as it's not like a 2.0 or something. 😉
