Grading system @ UCSF

Hi. I'm wondering if UCSF has pass/fail grading system cuz I heard from someone they have the normal grading system (a/b/c/d) ? If it's P/F, then when did it change? do you guys know?

It is pass/fail. They changed it a few years ago (I don't remember exactly when); they said it makes the class a lot less competitive. But if you want to specialize, they go based off your class rank, board scores (if they don't change to p/f), and commendations you can get from professors in classes if you earn them.

If I remember correctly, if you want to specialize, they have like HIGH pass, Pass, and Low pass, and of course FAIL. Then if you do a really good job, I think the staff will give you a letter or something? I don't remember the exact detail but I think that's how UCSF will distinguish students if one wants to specialize.

I know a lot of schools use the Honors pass/pass/fail grading system. I'd guess UCSF would be something of that sort. So there won't be a GPA but like the transcript would say how many classes you passed with honors and how many passed.
