Hello All,
I had a question in regards to how aamc will separate my classes. After my first degree, I took some undergraduate level classes as a non-degree. The university where I am at, classified those classes under the graduate non-degree seeking category since I already had a first degree. They told me I could only add to this if I were to be a non-degree again with only my first degree or a non-degree again after my masters. I did a second degree because paying on my own was way too much of a burden and since there weren't many undergraduate science classes for my second degree, I mixed in graduate courses. My overall gpa in my second degree is a 3.6 and within the specific graduate credits, a 4.0. Since I have been doing so well, I was invited to apply for their masters in biomedical sciences program non-thesis route and transferred some credits in. My question is this, how will medical schools calculate my total gpa? Will they pull any and all 4000 level classes and below no matter how my school has them on my transcripts or will they go by my transcript organization (remember, some graduate level courses are still left in my second undergraduate degree). Thank you!

Unless you were working towards a graduate degree those fall under "undergraduate courses"

To clarify further, since all these grad classes were taken in a non-degree program (towards graduate degree) and you already had a first undergraduate degree, these would be listed as both as separate post-bacc, with a separate GPA and will be averaged with your original undergrad degree
Only a small portion were taken as a non-degree. The rest of the graduate classes were taken within a second degree of Neuroscience and behavior and all are transferable to my masters. I just haven't done it yet because I wasn't sure how the separation went.

Yep! the graduate credits are mixed in and straight A's because there weren't a lot of undergrad science classes left that I didn't already take. Instead of starting from 0, the program coordinator said that since I did so well that the coordinator said I could transfer them into my program. I just wanted to know if it would be beneficial to transfer them or leave them with the 2nd degree.

In terms of AMCAS you have UG (first degree), Postbacc (anything after first degree), Grad. The GPA that schools is overall UG with is first degree+postbacc. Grad degrees are considered separate and mostly much less important in evaluating an applicant. Therefore, leaving the non-degree grad classes as part of you second degree would have them both showup as as separate line item PB GPA and get calculated into the important overall UG GPA. In addition, all these GPAs are broken down by term and "science/non-science," these non-degree grad classes as part of the PB (second UG degree) would boost the UG BCPM GPA.

My recommendation is to leave them as part of the PB (Second degree). Going for the masters degree will not be that much help in medical school application.
Thank you very much. I will leave them and just continue my masters from scratch since I am applying this cycle. My transcript has everything separated even categorizing part of my non-degree portion as graduate non-degree because I took some classes inbetween my first and second degree. I wasn't sure what would be added and what wouldn't.

Yes I understand. I was just stating how my school has it organized on my transcripts
