I think you can go to the financial aid office and return the money to them so they can return it to the lender. I'm sure there's a way to do that without involving the financial aid office as well. If I were in your scenario, I would accept the max, save an educated amount for an emergency fund, and return the rest. You don't want that extra to accrue interest.
