If research is not your passion then skip the Ph.D. If you enjoy research and still want it to be part of your career then you can incorporate it into your medical training.

As far as I know, a foreign advanced degree will not have a negative effect on your medical school dreams. Don't expect it to have a large positive impact either.
 
Mostly, they won't care all that much. For admissions purposes, it is an especially nice EC. I did a brain-related PhD, and only one of of the several neurologists I interviewed with so much as asked about my research. That sort of tells you what you need to know.
