Howdy All,

I'm beginning a PhD in School Psychology this fall semester in Texas, and would love to hear about any good reading material folks have used to prepare for the long road ahead. Any and all topics are welcome, but I'm sure this won't be like undergrad. 😀

Thanks!

I really love the Compleat Academic (I don't have the book on me so I don't know the complete title but it's on Amazon). The first chapter is about making it through graduate school and it's extremely motivating. This book, however, is geared towards people who want to be a part of academia.

Andy Field's stats book was a lifesaver for me this year. Admittedly, my undergraduate stats class wasn't really enough to prepare me for grad school. This book really put me on a similar (and at times, better) footing than my colleagues.

"How to write a journal article in 12 weeks" and "Theory construction and model-building skills" have been vital to my development as a competent and efficient researcher.

Hope this helps!

"Getting What You Came For" is also a book that was highly recommended to me by many of my colleagues.

Just the kind of recommendations I was looking for! Thanks 🙂
