Hey everyone,

I was planning on applying to dental school but I was afraid that my GPA is not competitive enough so I decided to apply for graduate school. The only problem is that I only know a handful of schools that accept DAT scores instead of GRE scores. As of right now, I'm looking to into a Master in Public Health. Does anyone know which graduate schools accept DAT scores since I did not take the GRE? Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I would go to the SOPHAS.org page. They have links to all participating schools.

I've never heard of a graduate school accepting DAT scores as a replacement to the GRE. If you were serious about planning on applying to dental school, then don't back out of it now because you're starting to have second doubts. If you'd like, apply to graduate school and dental school. Take the GRE.

Plenty of people get into dental school with a below average GPA, it's been done, so don't give up hope.

UMDNJ accepts DAT scores, I'm in their Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. I used my DAT scores to get in. I really like the program, I would recommend it. It is a masters in Biomedical Sciences though not MPH, but it's geared for students who want to go to dental school.

Also check out this link, it has a ton of short masters programs

FYI: California State University Los Angeles doesnt require GRE for some master degrees.... 😉

hey syk0azgnuy, why not just take the GRE? I know it's sort of a pain, but it should be relatively easy for you, particularly after taking the DAT. The reading comprehension part is the same as on the DAT, and the math (if I remember correctly...I took the GRE two years ago) is actually quite a bit easier (no trig, I believe)

In any event, I would think that having a GRE score would open up a lot of graduate programs to you -- ones that you might not be able to apply to with only a DAT score -- and this might be worth the temporary pain of yet another test...that is, if you ultimately decide not to go for dental school this time around...

UMDNJ takes DAT scores and its a pretty sweet program, albeit expensive. The teachers are good and there is an ample amount of time to study and strengthen you knowledge of the sciences applicable to dental school, and its next door to manhattan. big con, all night courses for the most part and newark is a crap town.

Hi I am planning on applying to umdnj's masters program too. My overall GPA is a 3.32. However, my DAT score was only a 16 (i took in 2007). Do you guys think I should take the GRE? I do not know if they will take my DAT score being that I took it in October of 07. In addition, is my DAT score too low for UMDNJ- masters program? thanks for your help
