Graduating in August and Residency

I had personal a personal issue and had to take several months off from school. Now that I have determined I will graduate in August of 2013 two months after the rest of my class, I am wondering what to do. Should I go through the AOA opportunities website after I graduate and try to get a spot thats left over, or should I try to match the following year?
If I do manage to secure an Internship for a year and I start two months late will I be unable to apply for a residency the following year due to the length of commitment of the internship?
I appreciate any insight.

I know of some residents who did not start in June/July. Also, during residency, some people will take time off for health reasons, ie maternity leave. You have to talk it with your program. They can work things out for you.
