I recently decided to switch from premed to predent but I am also graduating this May. Since I decided to change my mind in my last semester, there are some prereqs that some dental schools require that I did not take because I was on the premed track up until now, and my major did not require them. For example, my state school requires genetics and microbiology which I have yet to take and obviously cannot register for them now midsemester.

Can I still apply to dental schools and assure them that I will take these courses during my year off if I get admitted. Is this even possible after I have already graduated (enrol at community college or maybe take at my same university in fall and/or spring...even though I would have already graduated)? I do not want to take in the summer because I want to study for the DAT and also what if I don't get accepted to a school that requires the certain class(es) that I haven't taken?

And finally will this hurt my application chances to schools that require extra courses that I did not take because they were not premed requirements?

Thanks!

Just be careful when deciding where to take prerequisites. Some dental schools won't recognize community college credits. It might not be an issue depending on where you decide to apply, but I'd check the websites of all the schools you're interested in as a precaution.
