Hi,

I recently decided I want to go to dental school. I graduated last semester with a degree in biology and am currently in grad school for statistics. Since I made this decision pretty late, I’m missing some prerequisites and don’t have a ton of extracurriculars. But I’m planning to apply for the fall 2027 cycle, so I have plenty of time to get my shadowing, volunteering, and coursework done.

In undergrad, I was really focused on school and didn’t join any clubs or take on leadership roles. I worked full-time over the summers and was a director at my job, but that’s the only leadership experience I have. I also graduated a semester early to save money and was balancing a lot of math courses along with my bio classes. I ended up with a 3.85 GPA, but I didn’t really do much outside of academics. Since I’m taking two years off before applying, does it really matter that I wasn’t involved in clubs during undergrad?

As for prereqs, I still need physics 1 and 2 (I took a joint physics class in undergrad and got an A, but I know most dental schools require two separate semesters), orgo 2, and anatomy & physiology. Would it be fine to take physics at a community college over the summer and then do orgo, anatomy, and physiology at my grad school?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

How much shadowing or working in dental clinics have you done? Let's make sure you know what you want to do.
I'm starting shadowing on Monday. I just recently decided I wanted to give dentistry a shot. I always wanted to go into healthcare, but I loved math in undergrad, so I started focusing on pursuing an MS in statistics with the hopes of breaking into biostats. I know I'm getting ahead of myself since I haven't shadowed/worked in a dental office yet, but I am a big planner.
