I just completed my first year of college at a private university with a 4.0 and about half of my premed reqs done (orgo next sem). I am currently in the honors program at my school, and am not sure If I should continue this. My question is do med schools see graduation with magna/summa cum lade as a great or miniscule achievement/award. This would better help me decide whether or not to pursue this, because my classes would be tougher with honors as an engineering major, which would potentially lower my gpa.

Thank you in advance.
You're getting things done early, which makes it seem unlikely you'll take a year off after college. If that's the case, you will already have been admitted before your Latin honors have been calculated (since that is done at graduation). To that extent, it doesn't matter.

It all depends on how much you think you can handle. I was in this same predicament before, however, I opted to go w/o the honors courses. I have a 3 year old son, and I didn't think it would be the wise thing to do. You may take those honors courses and see how well you do in them, and then when you begin to feel overwhelmed, taked it easy on yourself. Hope this helps. :luck:

Oh, that is so true. Now it makes sense why I never see this credential on many profiles.

Thank you.

No problem. Now good luck with your engineering major!

I don't know about your school, but mine gives a sophomore honors award that shows up on your transcript... it gives people real motivation to do first- and second-year honors.

My college gives alternate Latin Honors. It shows up on your transcript/diploma the same as Honor's College Latin Honors. I could not fit the extra courses into my schedule. I did alternate honors. I started to quit the alternate program which required a thesis. It became a source of pride in myself to finish the requirements. I am glad I did. No one can take the stamp off my diploma.
