June 2... crazy and exciting.. Honestly the best part is my parents and how happy they will be. Without them, my wife and the rest of my family I wouldnt have gotten nearly as far..

yep, now you get to study during residency for your in-service exams, prepare for board exams, prepare for board re-cert (depending on specialty), keep up with new stuff-it never endsGauss said:
June 11. 9 more days of rotations and I'm done. You guys are lucky to be done so early. We have rotations until the very end. Ugh, it's almost over.
Did ER in march as my last month and frontloaded all of my shifts to finish on March 15th. 😀
I graduated this past Sunday (may 21st).
I am constantly crapping my pants every time I think about the fact that I will be an intern in a little over a month! My knowledge is at a low I have not seen since 3rd year!! I took boards in August and have watched my knowledge go steadily downhill since then (other than PM&R, which is what my residency is in).
Any interns out there want to reassure me that my severe case of infopenia will not keep me from progressing to the pgy2 year!

My friend who is at BIDMC says her intern year is like being a glorified secretary. Puttin' in the orders. I wouldn't worry too much, especially is you are just doing a prelim med or transitional year. It will all come back to you anyway. I mean, how many different ways can you manage CHF.

Teaching...great in theory, except I'm pretty sure my students will know more than me if my knowledge continues to deteriorate at its current rate. For heaven's sake, I won't even be able to tell them where the ORs are (as I'm guaranteed to get lost myself)! But I'm still excited...

I am near the finish of my Transitional Year. If I were starting intern year again, I would enjoy my summer and spend as much time with friends and family as possible. Your free time will greatly diminish with the start of intern year. You could always buy a high-yield book such as Internal Medicine On-call or On-Call Principles and protocols these are one or the other good books to have on hand while on call. But in no way would I study before intern year. I would just buy a book to have a little security. Uptodate.com is a great resource if you feel like you do not remember much (this is how I felt). When you have a patient that you have no idea what to do you can just read briefly (I stress briefly) and talk to your senior and attending that is what they are there for. I would get a resource for meds such as epocrates, etc. Other than basically getting your white coat ready to start the wards, I personally would not prepare more than that except to enjoy your time off!
