Hey everyone.

I just learned from my advisor that, because I entered as a freshman with a certain number of credits, I have the opportunity to continue each semester with 15-18 credits and graduate early, or I can graduate at my normal time (Spring '16) and take 12-13 credits each semester. I am leaning heavily toward the latter option so I can enjoy the normal span of my college career and focus a lot more on my ECs. I have heard before that taking an abundance of light semesters could be a detriment to an application, but I am hoping that is not the case. What do y'all think?
Thanks!

You're fine. As long as you're getting A's in your courses you're good. Just make sure you have stats, biochem, genetics, and molecular and you're set.

Unless, is there something you would like to do after graduation? Are you interested in doing some full time research, or a program like Teach for America (recently posted about)? Maybe you want to take the full four years but take advantage of your leeway and study abroad for a semester or even a year, does your school have programs abroad? I know a girl who could graduate early and chose to take her tuition money, travel to Europe for a semester off, and did an unpaid internship doing health policy. Then she came back and finished off senior year with her class. Another person I know similarly took a semester off from school in the middle of their junior year to train for and climb Mt. Everest (and she did!).

You have a chance to do something really cool with this flexibility 😀 Enjoy the freedom.

As Doctor Strange said though, if you don't have anything like what I'm talking about in mind and you don't mind spending the extra money, have fun during undergrad! You deserve it. I see too few pre-meds at parties 😉

Thanks, y'all! I do want to do some things. Move up the ranks in my clinical job. I'm already the MRE manager. Get my black belt. Run a student organization with my brother. I want to do research too. A 12 credit hour semester affords me all that time. Glad to know it won't be a detriment.
