I'm surprised no one has commented about this yet - but a colleague just called my attention to it - you can watch last week's episode on ABC or Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/watch/122947/greys-anatomy-state-of-love-and-trust)

Basically involves storyline of a woman becoming wide awake during a bowel resection while the MDA was reading a magazine. Later Dr. Bailey chews out the MDA for being an anesthesiologist for having a cush lifestyle sitting on his ass making "buckets of money." Later on it test results the patient has an abnormal "P450 enzyme" that results in fast metabolism of anesthetic drugs and the magazine he was reading was not "Architectual Digest" but "Clinical Journal of Anesthesia" and when the lady has to return to the OR for more surgery it is quite obvious that a BIS monitor is being used and even commented on by the MDA.

Obviously this kind of depiction of our profession is unfortunate and troubling. The ASA apparently did respond and try to contact the producers of the show - but without much success. (http://www.asahq.org/news/asanews020510.htm)

Just wanted to put this out there for discussion....

The ASA has commented before, and it still falls on deaf ears. It's TV, man - if a good looking person says it, it's true! True, I tells ya!

I mean, at least there's "Trauma, Life in the ER". There isn't "Induction, Life in the OR".
