Do you think it's too late to double check about GRE scores and transcripts being received by schools? I sent mine in a long time ago (back in August/September) but didn't follow up with all the schools...

will schools notify you if they are missing things?

Some schools notify you. I remember Penn last yr sending me a notice that they didn't have something (don't remember what though.) When I called Minnesota in early Sept to check my app, they said they'd be sending out notices if they were missing anything. Both schools have said they'll allow some time for missing paperwork to come in.
Although, last yr when I called Iowa asking about some form, they didn't have it and it didn't seem like they had any intention of ever notifying me. So I think it depends per school.

It does depend on school. I know Tennessee does notify you if anything is missing, and NCSU does not.

I had transcripts and test scores sent under both my married and maiden names back in June. All but one of the schools I applied to were missing the paperwork with my maiden name because they had not figured out that I had stuff under two names, although it clearly states that fact on my VMCAS. I was very polite when I called and explained that there were problems with other schools not having everything together and I just wanted to double check for my own sanity. Usually they're very nice if you're polite and apologize for being neurotic.

I had the same problem with transcripts under my maiden name not being included in my file. Ms. Storey at Auburn was very kind to notify me when she thought I still had transcripts missing, and quickly found them when I told her that I had a confirmaton of them being mailed. She also accepted a faxed copy of my GRE results showing that Auburn was one of my designated schools since they had not arrived there yet. She was very nice to deal with.

MSU shows all transcripts they have received for you when you fill out a supplemental application.
