I saw on the AAVMC website and on individual school websites dates that they want you to take the GRE by and dates that they want them in by. A couple of the schools want them taken by 8/31 or even 7/31. How strict are they on these? I know people that got into these schools or had interviews and they took the GREs after that date. I could call up and ask, but I was just curious if anyone had any experience with this. I just took mine and need to retake them next month, but I'm wondering if I already missed out on some like Kansas and Wisconsin (wants them taken by 7/31.)

This is probably because the GRE was supposed to be changed and schools wanted students to take the test before the change took place in order to be able to compare applicants to a standard that the adcomms know. Now that the GRE is not being changed, they are probably not going to hold to those dates but you should probably check with the schools anyway. Usually it's Oct. 1st.

I would look on your school's website before the aavmc. My school on the aavmc says they want you to take the GRE's before 8/07, however on my school's website it says differently. I don't think all the dates are correct on the aavmc.

I think they take it pretty seriously
