Hi. I am taking the gre this summer and I have already taken a practice test. I did horrible in the quantitative section and need to refresh all my math knowledge because I am not very good in math. What's the best book to study that refreshes you well on the fundamentals and prepares you for the actual quantitative section? Is a program called magoosh effective? Thanks.

When I took the GREs waaaaaay back in 2003 (for my first graduate degree), I hadn't taken a math class in 5 years, and I used the Kaplan review book. I felt that one was better than the other book I got (I think maybe Princeton Review?), since the math review information was very clear and it offered a lot of practice questions. I ended up doing just as well on the math section as the verbal section, and math was never my strong suit.

I used kaplan the 2nd time around with 6 points overall increase from what I remember. 1 point verbal and 5 in quantitative. It came with 5 or 6 practice tests.

My math was lacking and I was able to brush up on it with kaplan.

@beestrng, what kaplan book was it?
And thanks @c2902 for the encouragement.
Also, I did not do well on the act. My professor said because I had a low act score, that means realistically I'll get a low gre score. Is that true?

It was kaplan premier i think. I used the ETS official and Barrons practice test.

I felt Kaplan was helpful and the others were nice to have to practice.

This was two years ago.

Low ACT? From high school? I don't know anything about that-it was a long time ago lol.
