GRE percentiles

Hi guys,
I haven't posted in a really long time, but am putting the finishing touches on my VMCAS app and had a question I was hoping someone could answer for me. I am currently living in Mexico and my GRE scores are in a box somewhere in California. On the application, it asks for both the GRE scores and percentiles. I remember my scores, but I can't remember the percentiles. Does anyone have a chart of the conversions? I got a 790 on the math, 520 on verbal, and 4.0 on writing...anyone know what percentiles those are in? I would appreciate it SO much! Thanks!

Good to hear from you, pups! I think it depends on the test you took since I think the percentile is relative to all other test takers that day. I'm not sure though. Good luck trying to track it down!

you might be able to call ETS and have them give you that information over the phone...OR send a copy to you in mexico, though that it probably not ideal as it might take awhile & cost money (although i believe you can rush the mail).

Well, a 4.0 on the writing was 33rd percentile both times I took it, in August 2006 and September 2007 ( ), so it's probably safe to assume that one is about the same. Don't know about the others, though.

I was pretty sure I remembered the 4.0 being 33% and if my memory serves me correctly, the 790 was 92nd, but I have NO idea about the 520 (I want to say somewhere in the 60s, but I could be totally making that up).

just printed my vmcas out - easy to reference. on november 3, 2007 i got a 570 verbal which translates to 79th percentile.
seems like you have the other ones covered.

I realize you probably don't want to hear this since you already have it all figured out, but when I took the GRE this past July and got a 4.0 on the writing, I was in the 37th percentile. So it definitely depends on when you take it.

The percentiles change for each test, so using percentiles of someone who took the test at a different time will not be accurate. Can you go to the ETS website and ask them there? Looking at their site now, you can get your scores by phone too, if you manage to find a phone, but that also costs. It seems like if you could call/email someone to look through those boxes and find the scores, it would be a good thing.

I have a similar question. Except, Im looking at my score report right now from ETS, when they ask for the "GRE Percentiles", is that the %below (listed next to the score)? Seems like an odd way to word it...%below

I just transferred the percentiles strainght off of what ETS gave me. But that's a great question to ask the VMCAS staff on the other thread, too. (just in case)

I thought we had to wait for the scores to be mailed to us. They show you your score right afterwards, but not the percentile. Why would we have to pay to find out?

You're right, but Pupforseeing is out of the country and doesn't have access to her scores. You can get them over the phone but you have to pay for it. I guess nothing is free🙄

The more recent percentiles were HIGHER (not hugely, but enough to make me notice). I figured there might be other people out there in my situation, so check your most recent score report and cross them with the VMCAS app before you submit VMCAS.

Huh, my verbal somehow went up 1% and my writing went up 4%..... now thats just wierd.

Weird, my analytical writing was 5% higher but the others were the same.

I'm glad you guys are noticing - sounds like you guys had similar differences. My math and verbal went up by like 1% but the analytical went up by a bit more.
