I took the GRE (for a second time) this past July (before the revision) and received percentiles of 89% Q and 88% V. I just ordered my scores to be sent to the scores and now it lists my percentiles as 88% Q and 86% V.

What's the deal? Which ones should I report 'unofficially'?

Perhaps new data became available between when you first took the test and when you received your results the second time?

Also, I'm curious--why would you report percentiles rather than just the scores themselves? Obviously the percentiles are important to know for reasons of interpretation, but when it comes to applying to programs, I personally don't remember seeing any sites that required (or even asked for) percentile ranks. Things might've changed since I applied several years ago, though.

Same thing happened with my scores. And yes, most schools are asking for both the scores and percentile ranks.

Interesting; maybe it has to do with the whole recent retooling of the GRE. Either that, or it's entirely possible I've completely forgotten about that part of the application process.

Whatever the case, to the OP: I'd say that you should list the most recent percentile ranks.

Yep - everyone's old scores have been converted to the revised version on MyGre (although your previous score will still be available).

I would send the old scores, it's a particularly raw deal if you got an 800Q as that converts to only 166 on the revised GRE.

A perfect score on V is much easier on this test and correlates to 760-800 on the old test.

Speaking of which, now that I finally have my scores, would someone please chance me on WAMC?

ETS does an annual update of the percentile ranks each summer to make it easier for schools to compare scores taken for example 3 years ago to this year. All percentile ranks went down (so I guess people have been doing better on the GRE this past year), with the verbal percentile going down more than the quantitative (although the analytical went up). I am going to report the new percentile ranks since that's what they're gonna get on the report, and I want it to correspond with what I report.
