GRE writing score

I think different schools use different formulas (OKState's is really strange) and some schools don't really care about this section at all.
If a school asks you to do that, they probably have some instructions on how to..
F the GRE writing. 😀

I don't think you have to convert it yourself, the admissions people will do that...
This is the scale I got from the admissions lady at VMRCVM last year. Other schools are probably different, though.
6.0=800, 5.5=730, 5.0=665, 4.5=600, 4.0=530, 3.5=465
So each score is 65-70 points less than the score above it. Hope this is somewhat helpful!

I have a good rule of thumb. If a school cares what you got on your GRE writing, then you dont want to go there.
Problem solved.
quoted for truth
also
your percentile is what matters, at most schools. the AW percentiles are stupid. f them.
The grading system for the written thing seems a bit... err, subjective. I'm hoping to do better this time since OKSU counts it, but... I feel like I did betterthan a 4.5 last time. Maybe I didn't use enough of those 'connective words' they adore so much? On the other hand, however, also, in addition, blah blah blah.

dang, I did really well on that section, and didn't do much prep other than skimming the book I sent twelve tigers that discussed the approaches to the two types of assignments. my understanding is that what hurts most people is treating the tasks similarly, not providing support for the one that asks for an argument, and failing to use specifics in the one where you analyze a statement. If you have a basic grasp of grammar combined with an understanding of the tasks, it is suppose to be pretty easy to get at least a 5

It sounds like you have a surplus of awesomeness. Could you spare some for the rest of us common folk?

I hear the best predictor for how well you score on the writing is the length of your response. They're not really a fan of the succinct essay. Honestly I think if people are going to write a load of bull, it's sooo much better when it's short and sweet.
