I am interested in taking the GRE. I have signed up for a december test date in birmingham AL.

Anyway, what is the best prep book to use?

Today I looked at the books at a bookstore and found that I liked the looks of kaplan, princeton and petersons. I did not like the look of barrons, although this might have been in part due to the fact I bought a barrons for the PCAT and didn't like it.

Thanks,
katie

oh and I might also add this question:

the GRE general exam is used for entrance to vet school right?

I am interested in both animal science grad programs and vet school.

the book for princeton is decent, but the "4" tests on CD are not that great. Many of the questions are in the book, and then the questions seem to overlap from test to test.

kaplan seems to have a pretty good CD with tutorials and tests. I haven't used it personally, but my friend likes it.

good luck!

yeah everyone seems to have rave reviews of kaplan. I bought petersons but I imagine after I go thru this book ill do kaplans as well. I think two books are better than one cos' one might have more accurate coverage of certain aspects of the test

are you thinking about quitting pharm school and goign to vet school???

I'm looking at veterinary compounding... or then thres the fact that the NCSU pharmacology professor in the vet school is a pharmd... those both seem to be options.

ETS (the writers of the GRE) actually sells their own book that has actual old tests in it. This was the best resource for me (Kaplan was good to and the CD is actually really good if you really take the questions like the actual test day the scores are not too far off.)

thanks for the tip although i think i am only gonna hvae time to run thru the kaplan book.

i was going to finish the math section tonight but got put off by the foolish things young rebels without a cause do when they have a bit of free time and a bit of booze. *laughs*

im not totally useless however as
i have already worked thru the petersons book (but none of the practice exams) and so far i can say the kaplan book is better than petersons

i already quit rx school and am finishing up an animal science degree. 🙂

I am considering vet school but I am not freaking out over it or anything. ive made no plans to apply other than signing up for the gre (but that is also for grad school). The salary is less than an Rx to start out with but I think i would find many of the classes more myu style..particularly the anatomy aspect.

I was good at O chem /chem and liked it ok but i never really loved the stuff like some people did.

I would need to shadow a vet before i could say either way . Ive been putting shadowing a vet on the back burner.

as i have so many things. sometimes life just sort of gets out of control you know?

honestly that is fantastic - best of luck! I work in a veterinary diagnostic pathology lab and love it - definitely made me consider it as an option if I hadn't gotten into pharm school.

more or less pharmacy won out because there is a higher chance I can work in the basement and not have to talk to people, plus it will allow me more fundage to buy a nice horse and rescue all the homeless corgis in the world 🙂
