I'm on the fence about this one - currently have a few more prereqs to go (physics, 2nd semester organic, an english and an additional social science), but I am really sick and tired of paying 30k a year for my school's tuition (ie: i really cant afford it). I also wouldnt mind not getting a degree either - my school has a decently large amount of requirements that i havent fulfilled and dont feel like taking.

I have 3 years of college though, a 3.94gpa, years of volunteering (tutoring, some soup kitchen stuff), shadowed pharmacists, going to get a pharmacy tech job this winter. I'll probably get good recommendations and my original pcat score was a 90, i'll probably retake it after studying (if i decide to retake it).

Given that fall 09 will be yet more competitive as far as degrees go - should i drop out and go to a CC for a year to finish my prereqs and save approximately $25,000 ?? Or do i really need a BS ?. I'll probably be applying in fall 09, mostly to relatively less competitive schools in the midwest (ie: not california schools, flagship schools, or big state schools). as well as maybe uwisc, minnesota, and creighton. If i apply really broadly, will I be okay without a degree?

I'm already applying to USN this year just in case (since they dont require physics), but I doubt I'll get in due to not having any pharm exp yet and no degree.

Anyone?? If I'm being ridiculous in even asking this, dont bother responding.

I'm also applying without a degree, but I don't have as good of an overall GPA like you. I think you have a really good chance at USN since they except alot of students without degrees. You stats are great I would apply and if you didn't get in, get your BS/BA and re-apply thats my plan. 😀

I think you are really quite competitive, especially if you get that pharm experience. The only thing that you said that raises a flag to me is that you've taken 3 years of college and aren't done with pre-reqs or close to a degree. Obviously I don't know all your circumstances, but if you weren't taking a full load every semester and didn't have good reason for it, that would lower your competitiveness. Ignore this part if it doesn't apply to you.

If you take those pre-reqs at a CC would you later be able to transfer them back to your college to use towards a degree? Something to think about if at some point you might need to pursue a bachelors, such as you don't get in. Really I wouldn't worry that much about the BS right now. Saving the money is probably more worth it, and you can always get that degree later.
