I have since calmed down since my last message. Anyways,

At the hospital I'm doing my rotations at, it is like a real life Grey's Anatomy.

I found out that the interns are sleeping with each other AND cheating on each other with nurses, medical students, etc... It's ike a real life petri dish!!!

Awesome!!!

By the way, I cant watch any 'medical' show because I know it's fake and they are getting paid so much money that it makes me angry.

Sooooo many of the girls in my class have slept with their senior residents. Many of the residents are married - is it that bad? I'm scared to start residency...these docs don't seem like bad people, just overworked and spend so much time in the hospital.. does this life just breed cheating?

Wow..I really hope med students weren't sleeping with their residents while on service with them. Soooo many girls? Are they going around telling people this or is it just the typical med school rumor mill?

well it only goes on while they're on service...they break things off after seeing their evals. i am not kidding, no rumors... i can think of at least 4 gals who have told me such stories and there are certainly more that keep things on the DL. scandalous i know... my school can't be the only one like this.

My preceptor said that Gray's anatomy is the most realistic of the shows. He thought it was actually a pretty acurate portrayal.

I'm skeptical. Maybe I'm being naive, but I really doubt that *4* of your classmates would sleep with their residents during their clerkships. I'm basing that on the ideas that 1) most medical students aren't stupid and 2) most residents aren't that attractive.

I don't agree. None of these shows depict real life. They glamorize the medical field. If Grey's Anatomy were true every patient would die on the surgical services. Most days in the hospital I don't even have time to scratch my a$$ let alone talk hours and hours about my stupid love life as these characters do. And I'm not even a resident yet!

I would like to know what surgical interns wake up to go to work when it is daylight outside!

Yeah, becauuse all hospitals' surgery services are run by a bunch of interns, a chief, and like, 3 attendings. And the interns all scrub in on cool cases! And work with any attending they wish on a given day! Not to mention that someone like Christina would be killed before the first week of internship was over.

Oh and then there's the sleeping around stuff.

I think in order of realism:

1. Scrubs
2. er
**GAP**

3. House/Greys

Surgeons were definitely the sluttiest bunch at my school..everybody was screwing everybody from students to faculty. We have a couple faculty that are known for screwing the 3rd years, faculty screwing residents, residents screwing students, and the nurses of course.

I think you are being too skeptical... it actually all happened on medicine. You can not believe what I'm saying, but I think you're missing the point which is that it does happen. Even if the people involved were exaggerating (which given the individuals I really doubt it) there was certainly some inappropriate behavior and I know that I personally have been asked out on two different rotations. The question is why and does this happen everywhere or are doctors just special because they have readily available call rooms?

I'd say the shows may as well be documentaries, they are so realistic. For instance. At my school's hospital ER, so far we have had: fires, floods, power outages, gang wars, chemical spills, and helicopter crashes ALL IN THE ER ITSELF. You think this is just dreck spewed up by overworked scriptwriters? Pshaw!

And speaking of helicopters. Our chief of surgery was a real a-hole. Everybody hated him and kept wishing for something bad to happen to him. Well, one day his arm got cut off by a helicopter blade! That showed him, but not enough, he was still a jerk and everyone still hated him even though he was off the surgery service. So the SAME helicopter came back and fell on top of him! Heh heh heh! That showed him.

Oh and there's also this guy who works at the hospital, I think he's an internist but it's hard to tell because he hates seeing patients and never wears a lab coat or stethoscope. He has a really pimped-out office, he has three residents who work only for him and -- get this -- only sees ONE case a week, and he gets to pick which case he'll see. He's a real a-hole too just like the surgeon was, only everyone loves him for some reason and all the chicks want to sleep with him. Oh and one time he came to lecture our med school class and it gave us all a deeper perspective on medicine and life in general.

Oh and don't forget how the docs here risk their lives and their careers every week to save a life of a child that the hospital administration callously wants to give up on... so, yeah. Those shows may as well be classified as nonfiction.

And don't even get me started on this janitor who has been tormenting me from day one... I don't even know his name... yeesh

All I can say is, the sleeping around definitely goes on at my school's programs. Regardless of whether or not the majority of residents are fairly unattractive.

People that TALK about others sleeping around aren't getting any.

Hence, are sexually frustrated individuals venting envy.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't referring to the specifics of how the hospital is run. I'm sure there is variation from place to place in that regard. I think he was referring to more general concepts of what goes on in the hospital.

After 1/2 way through my 3rd year, I would say Scrubs is by far the most realistic show.

You find yourself joking about things you never would have dreamed you would find funny, the days where you feel totally incompetent, and smart ass attendings. Funny **** happens in a hospital all the time. I love it.

This is too funny. Each of these shows has an element of realism, but exaggeration and embelishment plays a big role in making these "dramas" fun to watch.

in answer to your question, yes....and no. people that spend a lot of time together occassionally have sex. news flash over.

I just think it's funny that anyone would use "Grey's Anatomy" and "realistic" in the same sentence, let alone add in a "most." It's not, in any regard you wish to consider.

None are realistic, but I think Scrubs has a lot of truth to it. There are so many personalities in the hospital, especially among the healthcare workers, that it makes a show like Scrubs hard not to relate to. Grey's Anatomy and ER are complete BS though, life isn't that dramatic, except for those with personality disorders.

True dat. From the standpoint of realism that show is a wreck. One day they all strut in wearing jeans, sipping coffee, the sun shining down on them. Next episode they're all showing up at 5 am and changing in the coed locker room. Nobody ever wears eye protection in the OR. An intern runs the code team (and has no idea how infrequently codes successful). The interns are all on call on the same night. They sure spend a lot of time in that auditorium watching surgeries. Maybe it's just me, but the surgery residents at my medical school spent there time doing surgery, not picking their noses in the bleachers. Whathisface can't name the causes of postop fever (you know, the ones that third years learn on day one of the surgery rotation). Chief switches from radical prostatectomy to nerve-sparing when the patient is already under (and over the objections of the attending). Yeah, sure.

Well, that's what I can remeber from watching fragments of three episodes.

guys, its a efin tv show.....not meant to reflect our sad existence....

geez dilate ur ass for once🙄

that said....the only thing i hated about the show was that it took almost 9 months for the hottest intern to get piped.... now that sucks...😡

I love the fact that all of these medical shows are so insanely unreal....watching tv as escapism....ever heard of it? I especially love grey's anatomy - patrick dempsey is a dream boat. And all I did to study for step 2 was watch bad medical shows and a did about 400 qbank questions.

I am embarrased to say I am friends with a chief neurosurgery resident who has slept with his last 3 interns. He was persued by all 3 of these women, so obviously those kinds of things happen!
