Group study or by yourself?

Hi all,

I have tried group study in college but prefers to study by myself.

Will you say it's a bad decision to study by yourself while in dental school?

Studying w/ 1 partner is perfect for me. Two can be a little tricky. It's hard to find a perfect match but it's awesome to find one! You will be able to complete each other's thoughts lol

I have always studied by myself and do well on the exams. It's more efficient that way.

Hi! When I start studying to get into the dentist program back home (in 2006), I studied by myself, and others students from my class created a study group. To make the story shorter, I was the one with highest score (91) and the first one on the list to get in the program. Study by yourself have pros and cons, pros: you can follow your own pace , start and finish whenever you like. Cons: if u need a second opinion you don't have anyone to ask right away. In my personal experience study group slows me down in my learning process , as I said , you can follow your own pace. Hope this help. Good luck with the exams!

I did both. I'd review the material before study group sessions. That way I was already familiar enough with the material, that if another individual had something unique to add, I'd notice that I didnt have that information in my notes. I just find group study sessions to be more productive in that manner.

Ditto. I also am a bit of an auditory learner, so even though I could have done everything on my own, I found myself breezing through topics I reviewed in group study because the conversations stuck with me. To me, that makes group study invaluable.

I always found it more enjoyable to study in groups, but wouldn't do as great on tests as I would have if I studied alone. So it's socially better, but academically worse to study in groups (for me).
