I recently asked a colleague who is well-versed in this area for a similar rec, and this is what was recommended to me:

Applied Longitudinal Data Analysis: Modeling Change and Event Occurrence by J.D. Singer & J.B. Willett

Thanks so much. I am currently plowing through the articles of Daniel S. Nagin of Carnegie Mellon who does a lot of work on developmental trajectories. I definitely need to read something more fundamental 🙂.
