Sorry to kavetch on the boards, but maybe you guys can use this information...

I am one of those people who likes to have things done early. I hate putting things off to the last minute - I'd rather have everything in place and be able to relax. After my acceptance to school, I started right away on submitting all the required paperwork - after all, I didn't want to be rushing around trying to meet deadlines.

So, last Monday, I mailed in my first deposit to the school. I sent it out 2-3 day priority mail... with delivery conformation. So, on Wed., I check to see if the school has received my check.... the usps webite states that, no, the last activity this letter has seen was the initial mailing. I shrug, and check Thursday. Still, it's still sitting in my local post office. Friday, nothing, Saturday, nothing. I start getting frustrated, I mean, this is my deposit to hold my seat! I call the usps customer service line and was told that, even though I paid $4.35 for 2-3 day priority mail, delivery isn't guaranteed within that time frame. I could have used a 37 cent stamp, and had a better chance of it arriving in time! The good thing is I only mailed out a check (not a money order or cashier's check), so I can just write another one.

So, the lesson? The United States post office is evil - so don't put off mailing anything of importance!

Stupid post office. 😡

As soon as it is postmarked, it is legally sent in. For contractual purposes, as soon as it is dropped off...you can consider it there. There is no benefit for sending it priority or anything else. Sorry about your story, but I'm sure they won't care if it is a few days late. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong on this aspect of legal law.

The post mark is good, legally. so if the school quibbles point out you did send it on time...per the post mark...Still the Us postal service rapid mail /3 day mail is not as good as fed ex or UPS. If you send via those services, they are gauranteed to get there in the time frame you want...while USPS may not be, unless you do the addendum of certified mail, or guaranteed mail with signature on reciept.
Gotta be careful....I also call/email the people i am sending the item to to let them know..it has been sent, and the tracking number/ anticipated date of arrival. Those tracking numbers are invaluable....they let you know where the item is...at any time of day or nite...
