So then we'll celebrate all of our multiple acceptances AND your birthday, hee hee!

Sounds like we've got an awesome group, guys. Let's make this a great and fun year.

Better than mine, mine's in the middle of the first semester, when I'll be too busy to even remember it. Anyway, I'll see ya guys in a couple of weeks. Should be interesting.

I just wanted to jump in and congratulate everyone on their acceptances!
I'll be moving up next week and am finally starting to get excited (and a little nervous). BTW, I'm gonna be living on Wisconsin ave about a mile from campus. What do people who live there think of this location? I have a feeling I'll be a bit on my own, but at least I won't have too many distractions 😀 . Anyway, I can't wait to meet all of you.

hey - do any of you guys have the original acceptance letter handy? if so, could you tell me what the conditions for admission to the program are? i think the only one was a finalized transcript conferring my degree sent to karin thompson. in any case, i just got an e-mail from her saying that i had not met all the conditions for this and that they had to be met by monday (wtf?). anyway, i'd appreciate it if someone let me know what the letter says. thanks a ton.

Hmm, that sounds strange. Well, I'm not sure this is what you want, but here's the original acceptance email that I got. I left in the contact info in case you didn't have it.

We are delighted to inform you that the Special Masters Program
Admissions Committee at Georgetown University has
recommended that you be accepted into our graduate program. Once your

they will send you an official acceptance. Please allow approximately
FOUR weeks. ONCE YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN

SECURE YOUR PLACE IN THE SMP CLASS OF 2005, AND TO FACILITATE ANY
FINANCIAL AID
APPLICATION YOU MIGHT BE MAKING THROUGH THE OFFICE OF STUDENT FINANCIAL
SERVICES.

Please go back to our website at http://www.georgetown.edu and read the
section called "Accepted Students". This will give
you details for housing, financial aid, application information to
medical school, and the August MCAT (if you are planning to
re-take it). If you need further assistance in these areas, please
contact our Program Coordinator, Ms. Aureller Cabiness at
(202) 687-1179 or E-mail: [email protected].

Classes will begin on Monday, August 16, 2004. PLEASE NOTE that these
dates are not the same as the dates
for other Georgetown programs. These are the correct dates for the

I'm going to be in foxhall. I went to dc last week, but didnt really find anything i liked. I came home, upped my price range (to more than i can really afford), and found a pretty good place. And my birthday is Aug 29th; My birthday was on the first day of classes three times in college 🙁 . I was actually an freshman orientation leader and wasnt allowed to drink on my 21st birthday...yeah i didnt follow that rule..

Does anyone know the exact amount for tuition? I've gotten a couple different answers, and I don't know how much I need to borrow. I've heard 29k, 25k, and 28k.

And I'm guessing I'm the only one from tennessee...eh?

Hey there, jmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... August 29th is not so far into the school year. We will still celebrate.

Stinkycheese-

Don't know if you are looking for housing, but I will not be attending the SMP program (I got off a waitlist this morning), so I pm'ed you with the info from the place I was going to be living in...good luck.

oh yeah, to everyone on this thread, good luck next year at Georgetown!!!

I believe it's approx 26k, not including the GU health insurance (if you already have your own, you can have it waived).

Thanks, bosox! And congratulations, that's great news!

I believe the tuition is $26,853 and the estimated total budget for the year is somewhere around 47,000. GU health insurance costs 1700 for they year. It's weird too because the finaid package only covers from August-May, but the program runs through July.

Thanks sg4runner and MD Rapper, it hasn't sunk in yet...I am sure the Georgetown program will help you guys get where you need to be. Good luck.

p.s. BE PERSISTENT!

Congratulations, Bosox fan: maybe since your luck is so good, this will be the year we reverse the curse? Well, I guess I shouldn't push it now... thanks for the housing tip 🙂 Good luck at med school!!

Hi guys...congrats on all the SMP acceptances!! I have a question, not sure if this is silly 🙂 But anyway, I'm applying next year, probably as a fairly average applicant, to a wide range of MDs and a couple DOs. I saw on the GT SMP website that apps are accepted Jan 1-Jun 1. If I didn't get into a single school, I'd like to go straight to that program I think, without taking a year off....Is that done? So does that mean that I apply in the winter without an amcas app and then decline a hypothetical acceptance when and if i got into a med school? Or do people just have to not get in during a given cycle and then apply in january of the following year?

Thanks so much as always 🙂

Yes, you can definitely do that. People are accepted to SMP whether they have applied before or not. Some apply as back-up, like you will, and others just apply because they want to strengthen their app before applying to med schools-- then most everyone applies to med schools during the program. Lots of people get into SMP and then drop the acceptance once they hear from med schools. Definitely apply, it's a good program.

Thanks stinkycheese 🙂 Seriously, I'd be happy to go there...it makes the worst case, "I don't get into a single school" scenario seem not even bad, assuming you get in there.

Hey guys,

I wont be joining you in the SMP after all. Too difficult to move so quickly. Good luck!

SC

Stinkycheese,
I guess since you live in Boston, you're going to the Boston U. program?

Yep. It's a big let down to not go after all this time, but I just can't get everything in place in time. Have a great year, guys!
