Hi guys, just wanted some clarification on some things! 🙂

Ok so I got 3 interviews to med schools and was put on 3 wait lists lol. My stats are (I think) pretty good other than my gpa (3.3) cause of a lil too much partyin. I got a 32Q on my MCAT and my extracurricular/research/volunteering are on mark. So basically what I think hurt me are my gpa and the fact that I applied at the last possible second. So Gtown is my egress if my wait lists don't come through (which seems like they wont seeing how late it is..)

Anyway, my questions are A) what STATE RESIDENT NON biased schools are good to apply to if you are a Gtown SMP student. B) Am I allowed to submit the 2k5 amcas while on wait lists? That is, will doing so in anyway negatively affect my chances of matriculating off of the lists? Finally C) How will those of you who have previously applied change your amcas? I mean, I was pretty happy w/ my essay and all that nice stuff and don't think they were the reason I am in this situation. Obviously I will change it to reflect Gtown and my status there but other than that, is it recommended that you change your application (essay in particular)?

Thanx guys. 🙂

G'town SMP students have a lot of success with Finch, GW, Georgetown, Drexel, and Jefferson medical colleges, as well as the DO schools.

Your application seems solid, just needs an academic boost, which G'town will provide. I wouldn't change much other than your PS. Maybe put something in secondaries about how going through the process twice shows your resolve.

It is fine, and encouraged, to submit AMCAS while on waitlists. Don't wait until the last minute because as you know, the earlier, the better.

hey stinky. thanx for the reply. But exactly what can I change about my PS.? I mean, it is basically about why I want to be a doc, and how i came to that decision, and a lil bio about myself. Non of those reasons have changed. All I can do is maybe add a bit (and i have to find room here hehe) about how Im going through postbac to boost my gpa. tho i don't know if that belongs in a PS....

The best personal statements do not tell, they show. Just something to think about.

Eksoset, I am in a very similar situation as you. I have similar stats and I am on two waiting lists. I too will attend SMP if they don't pan out for me. I think you should submit your AMCAS as soon as possible. It will not have an impact on your 2004 application status. You can do what I did and submit to a few schools at first, until you're fairly certain that you won't get off the waitlist, then add in the rest of the schools. In this case, you won't waste that much money if you do get that acceptance phone call. If not, your AMCAS application is processed and it'll only take a week for your other schools to get your application.
Regarding your PS, you might want to discuss some of the things so have been doing since you submitted your application last year. Any volunteer/work experiences? You don't have to write a completely new PS but I think showing that you have not been completely standing pat for a whole year is the way to go. I don't think keeping certain parts that you felt were really good will hurt you.
Maybe I'll see you at Georgetown next month....(I hope not!) ;O)

Thegandlighs, heh I hope I don't see you in Gtown as well. 🙂 But if it works out that way, im sure we'll still be ok.

You can reapply while on waitlists.
