Little bit of background: In the past, I've transferred from a CC and attended UC Berkeley for a year and came back to South Korea. Came back due to the military service (but found out I was unfit to serve and will be placed to do community service). I'll certainly go back for a year to obtain my bachelor and leave California for good.

After experiencing two cities with a high cost of living, Berkeley and LA. I'm exploring Guam University for my future post-bacc program candidate or possibly obtaining a bachelor here after transferring my credit (meaning not going back to UC Berkeley to obtain my bachelor).

How do you think about these two options?
Should I forget UC Berkeley's mighty diploma and go for Guam University?
Or should I obtain a bachelor and do post-bacc at Guam University?

I need some more information, I think. Are you Guamanian or Chamorro? Why Guam? Why not a lower COL school on the US mainland?

I’m not saying the University of Guam is a bad option, there’s just not a lot of information on it. Also, by attending UoG, you will not be establishing residency in any US state - which means that you’ll be applying as an OOS candidate to every medical school when the time comes.

The 300 dollar aparment rent got me lol and also my family is in South Korea right now and there is much less flight time if I want to visit them.
Plus I love Polynesian and Micronesian culture. Watched Moana like crazy. So there is a personal bias to it.
I might start at Northern Marianas college first to earn CNA or ASN.

Well, it’s an interesting path, to be sure, but one I now realize I’m not really qualified to comment on.

I recommend the following:

- Ask UoG how many of their students matriculate to medical school. If it’s a lot, great. If not, consider another school for your post bac.
- Ask the adcoms on the main premed forum how credits from overseas US territory schools are viewed. I would assume they’re equivalent to US mainland universities, but I don’t know this for sure. I don’t want to give you bad advice!

I watched M*A*S*H like crazy growing up, but it was nothing like the six months I spent living in Gangwon-do.

I just mean to caution you against making such a drastic move to a very remote place simply because you've seen it depicted in the media. I formally studied Korean language, culture, and history for years before I went there, and it was still nothing like I thought it would be.

That said, good luck with whatever you decide to do. I'm rooting for ya!

I feel ya and know what you mean.
But I have been there before 🙂

There is a pre-med program and they do announce folks who get into med school from their school.
They are accredited, so I think I've got the second part covered for sure.
