Hello anesthesia friends. I was hoping to get as broad or as specific a list of programs I could REALISTICALLY apply to for the upcoming match cycle.

Step 1/COMLEX 1- 236/616
Step 2/COMLEX 2- 242/dont care

I was first quartile in my class, have leadership experience in clubs, some research experience and working on a publication currently.

Let me know what you think, any and all feedback appreciated.

Looks pretty decent to me. You even have a shot at some upper tier programs. My advice is upper and midtier programs which accept DOs on a regular basis. Avoid bottom tier programs unless there is one you really like for location. You are a solid midtier candidate but don't let that stop you from applying to upper tier programs.

I found a list you had made for another student about a year back on a few mid-tier progams:

1. Emory
2. MUSC
3. UNC
4. Miami FL
5. Arkansas
6. Tennessee
7. Mayo Jax
8. Cleveland Clinic Weston
9. Augusta
10. UF-Jax

Any other you'd have in mind, or any other place I could go to find out what is considered "mid" and "upper" tier?

Moving "up" would include Vanderbilt, UAB, Wake. You have a very fine shot at all three interviews.

EDIT: didn't realize you weren't limiting yourself to the SE (blade's list threw me). Just pick a geographical region and apply to ~30 programs in that region. You'll do fine.

Lol yes and indeed I would actually prefer western and midwestern territories.

Guam is the westernmost territory. They don't have a residency.

Honestly you have an average application for the specialty. Just apply to a decent number of programs in places you'd like to live. If you have questions about specific programs, we can better answer.

I don’t have worries about matching itself, I know my step scores put me well within the matched DO’s according to the 2018 NRMP data.

I suppose a better question would be to ask what programs would I be wasting time and money applying to in my case.

I have no clue what’s considered upper or mid tier or where even to look to get that information, which is why I ask here. If there’s no comprehensive list or guidance you can give me I understand, I just figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

I see no reason to use my list of SE programs when you prefer Midwest. Apply to 20+ programs in the Midwest and you will match. Again, include 15 midtier programs in that list so you end up matching somewhere.

Hint: Cleveland Clinic is very DO friendly and your stats line up well.

Look at program websites of current residents. If you don’t see many DOs (more than 1 a class), then you are probably wasting your time applying to them. You have a good app, but not one that will be shattering any ceilings.
