Succinct is best. They can always ask questions and if you work with them regularly you can fill out the presentations to their tastes.
Demographic info, presence of important meds (a/p a/c mostly, but things like chemo/steroids may be relevant on a given case), mechanism of injury, pertinent radiographic findings, exam, pertinent labs (platelet count, INR, PTT routinely), anything you have done, and whatever your question or request is.
Example of what I would love to hear: Hey I've got this 10 year old girl no meds s/p MVC with a 2mm right hemispheric subdural with 2mm of shift. Pan spine negative. She's awake, alert, and full strength. CBC and coags normal. I started her on keppra for 7 days and I'm getting a repeat scan at 4 hours, but my hospital doesn't admit kids. Can we transfer for obs or do you think she can be dc'd if scan stable?
Lot of people want to tell a long winded story. Especially at night I'm probably laying in bed fighting sleep so short is best.
