Hi Docs !

I am an IMG, finished med school in 2004.Plan to do USMLE step-1 in March-2010.Although I did very well at med school ( in Russia), I just want to do my very best even in this step-1.After long reviews of the many posts here I tried to do FIRST AID for step-1, but found that I have forgotten many topics. So, wondering whether the following set of review books would help me through:

Pathology RR by Goljan latest Ed- wonderful book n can grasp all in there (maybe cauz I love path ! )

Pharmacology- Katzung review ( looked into lippincott's , but found it to be too long and has less review ques)

Micro n Immuno - Levinson ( CMMRS is nice and is used by almost all,but my brain prefers Levinson.I prefer straight forward info instead of jokes n pics although it helps many in remembering info)- do I have to read whole of Levinson if I dont use CMMRS at all?!

Physio- BRS ( no questions here ! )

BRS behav sci - I need this ,cauz didnt do much of this at all in Russia !

RR biochem, maybe will have to refer to Lippincott at times !

Anat, embryo- FA only

Subscribed for UWORLD - 6 months ( really learning a lot from here)

Is it ok to use LANGE flash cards for Path n Pharm to review and the Micro Cards for micro review ? Had a look at the new Robbins n cotran's flash cards and they seem to be very nice.Any reviews ?

Guys , your input is much appreciated.Thank you for your patience. 🙂

your set of books seem pretty standard, dont see why you cant do well with them. Maybe you can add Qbank.

Ditto kryptik.

Except, for IMGs, the problem is less 'having the right resources' and more 'retaining and recalling the right facts within 72 seconds'. You would also do well to remember that IMGs come with a three year expiry date.

#1. YOUR MISSING FIRST AID!!!! grab the 2009 edition. no need to wait for the 2010 edition! trust me you need it! also...when u get it, thereare errors in it, but there are websites dedicated to showing you where the errors are located!

#2. you also will want to get high yield molecular biology book FOR SURE! its very molec based these days!! no need for the new edition, grab the 1999 one. many people used it and it suffices.

if your asking us if your set of books you have chosen to study for the board exam is excellent...then yes(get those other two i stated)

as far as how to guide you on performing well on the exam...hmmm...search "taus study guide" or "taus step 1 study guide" on this forum. download it and follow it, you will be pleased : )

Thank you Docs for your time. It was very useful.

Is it good to substitute FA with MedEssentials by Kaplan ?

Is RR Physio good in place of BRS Physio ? Any ideas ?

Is Kaplan home study a good option for step-1 ?

Just trying to settle in with a set of books and start off from there ! But selecting the right set of books is really such a tough task !!! 😕
