Does anyone know the guideline for sexual activity after MI? I tried to find it, but no result so far.

Can couples have sex right after resolution of MI?

Hi Water,

I thought you posted something about this on the Step II page? Or, maybe all these pages and topics are sort of blending together in my tired brain.

I was thinking that it might be like, 6 weeks? I might be thinking about ob stuff but I dunno that sort of also sounds familiar for men post-MI. Did you do an up-to-date search? they seem to have the answer to everything. Or maybe (big) Harrison's? Now, they really have the answer to everything!

Or this found by google search: http://www.chd.org.uk/hp-physical-postmi.htm

Looked at this and thought you were asking about "M1" and I was going to tell you that you don't need to wait to have sex until you're done with the first year of medical school.

I think it's a question of functional ability, not a strict time period. I think if you can raise your heart rate to > 130 (?? maybe??) without feeling any angina/chest pain, then it's safe. Something like that.

They always told us when they can go up and down a flight of stairs.

I've also heard that when they can climb a full flight of stairs without stopping or having pain, they're good to go.

I have heard 1 flight of stairs with your regular partner, 2 flights of stairs for a new partner(seriously).

Wouldn't it also be a positional issue? Not all sexual activity is equally strenuous.

(Fictional I know, but I've see TV show docs advise patients to "stay away from positions involving weight on their arms" - I would assume they got that tidbit from a consultant).

Seconded, I was gonna say "as much as possible".

2 flights of stairs if it is your spouse, 4 flights if it's extramarital.
