Is this available to the public? I was under the impression the HK416/417 was not. Regardless that would be nice. Looks very similiar to the Sig 556 but of course thats only in 5.56.
So since we always seem to find a way to talk about guns I was wanting to divert this into Ammo selection. What are you guys carrying for PD? Ive been reading alot about the Cor Bon DPX and superball.
I've never been picky....modern semi jacketed hollow points that cycle reliably in my G23 without failure for 200 rounds.
For my Ruger GP100....does it matter when it's a .357 Magnum???
For my p22....does it matter what 22 lr you got loaded....they all suck.

My Berreta 1201 FP has a bandolier with an assortment of 12 guage shells right next to it....birdshot, buckshot, slug...

Aguila makes a .22LR 60gr subsonic bullet. It's basically an LR round that has a long bullet in a .22 short casing. I've shot this through my Walther P22, and it cycles just fine. The advantage is you're throwing a 60gr lead slug (deformable) at about 900 FPS with little muzzle rise. The result? You can get multiple pretty heavy bullets in close quarters retrained on the subject easily, which means you can get several shots off in succession.
While this wouldn't be my first choice for a PDW, I wouldn't exactly completely laugh it off as a back-up. Currently, my girlfriend "borrows" this gun to go shooting. I'd let her use it if she was walking down a dark alley at night by herself. Easy to handle. Probably effective with good shot placement (and she's a pretty decent shot).

Well, I'd trust CCI Minimags are lot further than Remmington thunderbolt. I do kind of like the 60gr Aguila. The gun also might be able to take a few rounds of hypervelocity stuff in a self defense situation.
To the OP - my advice would be to check out several types of pistols from different manufacturers and see what you like best.
There are some good recs here for some people, but they're not all for everyone. For example, I know Glocks are good weapons, but I despise them personally. I love revolvers, but lots of people wouldn't. It doesn't make them any less good weapons; just personal preference.
The gun has to point well for you, and be something you're willing to trust your life to. I hate double action weapons - whether that's a Glock or a bobbed-hammer revolver, doesn't matter. You may be completely opposite.
Shop around. Gun shows are great, because there's a good selection, and you can pick them up and see how they feel.

For home defense, I also have a 12ga, with various types of shell in the speedfeed stock and side-saddle. You have to know how to handle the shotgun though - a lot of people think you don't have to aim a shotgun because the shot will spread -> but it won't in a house with the short distances.
They're also cumbersome around corners if you haven't practiced/prepared for it. But delivering that much lead at once is hard to beat.
I picked up the Beretta CX4 storm in .40 for a home defense gun, mostly for my wife, who isn't that comfortable with the length of the shotgun. It's easy for her to handle the carbine, and it spits out .40's with hardly any recoil.
All the options is one of the best parts of shooting....
